Obvara Photoshoot with Jacqui
Entering Jacqui's studio in Mullumbimby was impressive to put it mildly. The showroom is impeccably laid out and laden with stunning ceramic art pieces - functional & sculptural. The kind of ceramics she produces is of a world class standard. Raw and earthy forms, textures and colours come together under her hands in a style that would enhance any space of classic beauty and high design alike.
After spending an afternoon in the studio filming and taking photos I left with a collection of images and footage showcasing a jaw-dropping creative process. Check out the video we created for her launch into the 2020 Mud Trail.

After nearly three quarters of a lifetime spent teaching and in the corporate world, it feels really good to get my hands dirty and play in clay! I’ve returned to one of my first passions after almost forty years – and cant help but wonder what my life would have been like if I’d kept at it. But in a way, I’m kind of glad I didn't – because coming back to it, after so long away, is just like discovering it all anew.
And so every morning around 6:00am you’ll find me in my Studio playing in the mud!
You need to centre the clay – but the clay also centres you - and I’ve never been so happy.
Most of the ceramics on this site are available from my Studio in the Northern Rivers town of Mullumbimby. Or else by mail-order. If there’s something you like and it’s been sold, please send me an email and I can make you another one! Or if you have an idea for something you like, we can work on it together. Or I can teach YOU how to make it! Because another one of my loves is teaching and passing on knowledge – and so I also run private one on one (or two) workshops. Please send me a message if you too would like to play in the mud!
Most of 2019 has been spent concentrating on Raku and a special type of firing technique, called obvara. I have been involved in three exhibitions: Elemental at NRGC; Numero Uno at M-Arts and Excudo, the Advanced Diploma Graduate Exhibition at Lismore TAFE.
My academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma in Education along with a Diploma in Ceramics at Lismore TAFE. In 2019 I also completed an Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts, majoring in ceramics.
